Beekeeping Apprenticeship Course
The course will run from May through October annually. Dates will be determined based on the weather and the availability of those taking the course. We will meet every one to two weeks depending on the needs of the hives and the availability of the students. The course meetings will primarily consist of working hands on with the hives.
By the course’s conclusion students should be able to:
Identify the different components of a standard 10 frame Langstroth hive
Use beekeeping tools such as the smoker, hive tool, and safety equipment
Identify workers, drones, and the queen
Identify honey, pollen, and brood cells
Understand how bees navigate to nectar sources
Understand how bees communicate in the hive
Harvest honey from a standard 10 frame hive as well as a Flow Hive
